One-Stop Breast Clinic
Referred by GP with Breast or Axillary Symptoms

information-icon

Welcome to the One-Stop Breast Clinic. This clinic is designed to provide a quick and thorough assessment of any breast or axillary (underarm) concerns you may have. It is a comprehensive service that allows most tests and consultations to be completed in one visit, making sure that you receive care as quickly as possible.

The One-Stop Breast Clinic is designed to offer a fast and thorough process, with several important steps:

Step 1: Questionnaire

When you arrive, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about your symptoms. This helps the team understand your concerns and decide the best course of action for your care. It will ask about current medications and whether you have any family history of breast or ovarian cancer. Please bring this information along with you.

Step 2: Consultation and Examination

You will meet with a doctor or an appropriately trained nurse. They will discuss your medical history, ask more detailed questions about your symptoms, and do a physical examination of your breasts.

Step 3: Radiological Tests (If needed)

You may have additional tests such as:

  • Mammogram: an x-ray of your breast
  • Ultrasound: uses sound waves to produce images of your breast tissue

These tests are available on the same day, with the results provided on the same day as well.

Step 4: Needle Test or Core Biopsy (If needed)

In a small number of people, a needle test or core biopsy may be recommended to get a sample of tissue from the breast or axillary area. Results from any biopsies will usually be provided at a follow-up appointment.

  • The clinic is busy: While we try to make the process as efficient as possible, please allow up to 3 hours for your appointment, depending on the tests required. We appreciate your patience.
  • Support: You may bring 1 friend or family member with you for support during your visit.
  • Please note that there are male staff working in the clinic, including doctors and nurses, and this may include staff involved in your care.
  • Mammogram and ultrasound results: If you have a mammogram or ultrasound, your results will be available on the same day. This will help guide any immediate next steps or reassurance.
  • Biopsy results: If a biopsy is done, the results will not be available on the same day. You will be given a separate appointment to discuss the results.
  • Further tests: For some people, the clinic may suggest extra tests after their visit, which may need to be arranged later.

If you need any further tests or a follow-up appointment, the clinic staff will guide you through the next steps. They want to make sure you receive the right care and support for your needs.
